In January, we passed the 10,000 mark! Over 10,000 burritos in 2 years. 10,000 meals served, 10,000 times someone didn’t fall asleep hungry. 10,000 times we’ve handed people dignity in the form of a meal.
It’s nothing short of amazing, and extremely humbling. From just the 2 of us in our kitchen with nothing but 35 burritos and a warming bag to keep them hot, to a whole team of us in a donated kitchen making 90+ burritos every single Sunday, 4 kinds of salsa, 48 bowls of chicken tortilla soup, gallons of hot coffee, bags and bags of dog food, waters, Bombas socks, jackets, beanies and hoodies, and the list goes on.
We couldn’t do what we do without our incredible team of volunteers who give up their Sunday afternoons and evenings to shred protein, portion out salsa, assemble burritos, do dishes and load everything up. Then we all caravan down to Old Town and set up where a line has already formed waiting for us because they know we’ll be there every Sunday at 5:30, no matter what.
Over the past 2 years we’ve been able to form some precious relationships with our friends that we serve. We’ve learned their names, their likes and dislikes, their dogs’ names-even their dogs’ preferences. We now know that people need long socks in the winter and ankle socks in the summer. It’s always cold at night no matter the season, so blankets and jackets are always needed. Hoodies and jackets with hoods are preferred. Personal hygiene products are easily lost when you’re forced to move all the time, so they’re always needed.
We’ve also learned that everyone is capable of finding themselves unhoused at any given time with just a twist of fate or a streak of unlucky breaks.
Everyone loves to be seen.
Everyone feels special when you remember something about them, no matter how big or small.
Everyone needs to feel like they’re apart of a community, even if that community is a row of tents on a sidewalk, but knowing you’re not alone is priceless.
We are honored to be apart of such a beautiful community of people who are so full of love and generosity, even when everything in life feels like it’s against them.

keep it up folks! We love you!❤️
