About Us
The Eye Love Project is a non-profit organization that was launched on January 1, 2023 by Marcos and Stacie Velasquez.
Stacie is a Humboldt County native, but moved to the Bay Area with her family as a teenager, where she met Marcos, a Bay Area native. They moved back to Humboldt County together 10 years ago with their 4 children, and have been serving this community by working for and volunteering through feeding and housing programs since day one. Together, they have a passion to someday serve the unhoused, underprivileged and disenfranchised community in Humboldt County full time.
Their first project is Eye Love Burritos. They started their first Sunday making and giving away 35 burritos, and are now giving away 100+ burritos every Sunday. To date, they, along with their team of volunteers, have given away 13,220 fresh, homemade burritos.
They are also able to give every person they feed their choice of burrito, (shredded chicken, pork, vegan rice and bean or bean and cheese), one of 3 homemade salsas, chicken tortilla soup in the rainy season & sandwiches in the summer, bottled water and hot coffee. They also provide socks and dog or cat food as needed, as well as jackets, beanies, scarves and hand and foot warmers in the cold weather.
One of the first dignities that people lose when unhoused, is the ability to choose and eat a hot meal, and the goal of The Eye Love Project is to restore dignity and bring love to people through the power of choice, eye contact and a smile.
