eye love donations

One thing we know to be true, is that the topic of homelessness can be touchy. It’s almost like talking about politics. People feel very strongly that we should be doing more as a society for them, or that it’s a waste of time completely because they’re all addicts with no moral compass. There aren’t many people that we have come across over the years that don’t have a strong opinion.

As we were walking through old town Eureka a few Sundays ago, we came across a lady who was sleeping in a doorway. Occasionally, if it’s someone we’ve interacted with before, we will leave a burrito for them while they sleep. So, that’s what we did. As we were getting ready to walk away, we noticed 2 men standing on the corner watching us. As we got closer to them, one of them called out to us, ?˘

“Hey! Are you guys helping people out with food?”

We looked at each other knowing this would go one of two ways; they were going to either think it was a cool thing, or we were about to get an earful about how we are enabling people.

Marcos answered him, “Yeah! We’re handing out hot burritos.”

He reached into his pocket and pulled out his wallet and handed Marcos $20.00.

“God bless you, man! There’s such a big need out here, thank you for doing your part.”

We stood and talked with them for several minutes, one of them recognizing Marcos from his work in the county jail a few years ago. When we walked away, we looked at each other in disbelief. Neither of us have ever had that happen, but that was the start of almost every other day that week receiving a check or a donation on our website or someone reaching out to ask how they can be involved.

One of the questions we’ve been asked several times is about grocery items that we can use and take as a donation. Now that we have the kitchen space to store them (thank you to Pastor Willy Bowles and Lifehouse Church Humboldt) we would love to take your donations.

We have listed the items we can receive below, along with the pictures of the brands and sizes, to ensure the quality and taste will be excellent.

El Mexicano Pinto Beans – 30oz or 96oz
El Mexicano Rice – 10lb Bag
Knorr Chicken Bouillon – 32oz
El Pato – 73/4 oz

Other donations we are able to accept and store at this time:
